there’s a facebook campaign to get Carol Burnett to host SNL. i’ve seen re-runs of the Carol Burnett Show and her performances in some movies, and she is fucking brilliant. guaranteed her SNL would be at least as good as Betty White’s. sign up for the group and make it happen!

one of my favorite political/cultural blogs, David E’s Fablog, has a post up about HCR and the goings-on of this past weekend. it’s hilarious, informative and infuriating and, sometimes, a non-sequitur. here’s my favorite clip from it:
liars are gross, racists are grosser. checkit.

Elizabeth Warren doesn’t take no shit from nobody. she’s currently trying to convince legislators in D.C. to work and vote in the best interest of their constituents (instead of themselves/lobbyists.) who knows how that will pan out with lobbyists outnumbering members of congress 8 to 1.
but Warren doesn’t seem fazed by those numbers, and she’s sticking to her guns and refusing to let the Consumer Financial Protection Agency be gutted by legislators, saying, “the lobbyists’ closest friends in the Senate would like nothing better than passing an agency that has a good name but no real impact so they have something good to say to the voters — and something even better to say to the lobbyists.”
Warren, however, is pledging to prevent anything like that from happening. She says, “my first choice is a strong consumer agency. my second choice is no agency at all and plenty of blood and teeth left on the floor.”
in case you aren’t sure who exactly Elizabeth Warren is, she is a Harvard law professor and the overseer of the TARP fund and its distribution. she’s been an outspoken advocate for the general public, and has been consistently outspoken about the need for tougher regulations on big banks and on Wall Street dealings. she’s also frequently ignored by the MSM (main stream media) and by Republicans because she’s way too logical and practical and because she backs up her statements with facts and hard statistics instead of spewing glittering generalities extolling the virtues of the “invisible hand” and other laissez-faire deregulation horseshit and blaming this crisis on the people who are actually paying the price for the arrogant gambling and subsequent bailout of Wall Street . but she’s still chipping away at the incestuous cycle of current/future lobbyists and current/former politicians that spend their careers building political relationships they can cash in on when they get to K Street (lobbyist-ville in DC). Warren is in Washington supporting and writing key legislation on behalf of everyone who lost huge portions of their IRAs, 401k’s, pensions and retirement savings. it’s just too bad that she has to do it without the attention and support of the very people whom she’s working so hard to protect.
Elizabeth Warren is a bad-ass. Elizabeth Warren for president!
